Southwark Park Storytelling Festival 2023

I dreamed it, I pictured it, we worked for it. A day-long festival in Bermondsey with fun, variety, togetherness and storytelling from many cultures.

By going electricity-free and using local artists and suppliers we were able to bring our carbon footprint almost to zero.

Our banner was created from recycled materials by Ioana Mincu, a masters student from Camberwell UAL

Our headline performer was Usifu Jalloh, an internationally-acclaimed storyteller and musician from Sierra Leone. We had BSL interpretation by Zoe from cSeeker.

We loved having Croatian stories with hand made puppets from Ivana Lindgren…

Somali storyteller Deqa Abdi shared the stories she heard during her nomadic childhood and magical tales collected from family and friends…

Dynamic storyteller and actor Rez Kabir got everyone joining in with his Indian stories…

More pictures below! Our other fantastic storytellers were Lonan Jenkins and Diana Olutunmogun. They enchanted the crowd and delighted children and adults alike. Curious House of Stories provided the tents and ran beautiful sensory craft activities using only natural clay and twigs and seeds. For me (below) it was surreal and wonderful to finally experience something I had envisioned and worked towards for so long!

George managed every practical detail – the whole event went without a hitch. He and I are very grateful to Southwark Council for believing in our dream too!
