I’m lucky enough to be visiting lots of schools this time of year. Here’s a few snapshots:
- Classroom Assistant: “Good morning! welcome to our school! So you’re a storyteller? you’re an author too obviously.”
- best moment of the day:
Teacher having a go at naughty kid for not joining in with the actions. Kid deliberately sits with his back to me. Three quarters of the way through the story he turns towards me. ….at the end he puts his hand up to a question. He gets the answer right & blushes with pleasure.
- Teacher: Have you got any questions for the storyteller?
kid: are you famous
me: not really
kid: have you met anyone famous
kid: have you met david walliams
teacher: thats enough questions
At every school I go to I try to explain to the children you can be a storyteller a poet and an artist without writing down a single word.
One kid suddenly “got it” and beamed “it’s even better than writing because the words are free!”
