Do you want to hear a story? Do you want to tell a story? Here are some of my favourite adult storytelling events in London with details about opportunities to listen and tell, message me if you think I missed one out!
This free, monthly, super-friendly and sometimes glamorous- open mic night is for new storytellers, seasoned professionals & everyone in between. Hosted by Niall Moorjani, Minnie Wilkinson and Laura Sampson – follow them on Insta / DM for details FIRST Wednesday of the month but sometimes varies, 7.15pm London Hospital Tavern E1 free. Message in advance to book a 10 min telling slot.
Fire circle hosted by Richard Skrein and Adam Njenga. A free, monthly community storytelling event for adults, come and share the stories of our ancestors, or just listen… all are welcome! First Thursdays Rangers Kindergarten site, Bethnal Green Gardens, E1 0HW free. Message in advance to tell a ten minute story.
Myths, legends and folktales in and around the beautiful Victorian surroundings of Pullens Yards. Friendly club, all welcome to tell and listen. Hosted by the amazing Elephant Team. First Sunday of the month, 3pm, Pullens Centre, green door, Crampton Street, SE17 Free, £3 suggested donation. Message in advance to book a 10 minute telling slot. Also offers quarterly opportunities for performers to tell a longer piece.
Exciting, themed true story slam at Rich Mix with ‘mainstage’ events at the Union Chapel in Islington. Put your name in the hat to have the chance to tell a five minute story. 8pm 35-47 Bethnal Green Road E1 6LA, second Wednesday prices vary.
Yup, it’s my very own travelling story night 🙂 We have the best audiences in town, not that I’m biased! Once a month we find a new locations and listen together. Sign up to the list to find out where we’re going next. Various locations in London (dates here) various prices, free-£25 Most telling slots are by invitation only, however its always worth messaging just in case!
Free (crowdfunded) storytelling workshops, masterclasses and try-outs in the centre of London. Join a cheerful community of artists, actors, writers and everyone who wants to improve their storytelling skills. Themes here. Accessible.Wednesdays The Crypt, Bridge Room, St Johns Waterloo SE1 6.30pm-8.30pm Free. Monthly opportunities for three storytellers to share a 10 minute tale on theme. Message well in advance if you want to share a story.
The “Viktor Wynd Museum Of Curiosities, Fine Art & Natural History” presents regular storytelling evenings for adults with either Victor himself or velvety-voiced Giles Abbott. Themes include ‘Dark Fairytales from around the World’, ‘Undying Love’, ‘Gothic Horror’ and more. Only 8 audience members at a time are admitted to the Wunderkabinett. 11 Mare Street London E8 4RP £15 Invited tellers only.
Hot punch, chat, and the power of ancient stories by candlelight. Tickets on the door. Showcasing the best UK storytellers. Hosted by the fabulous Nell Phoenix. Second Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm Torriano Meeting House NW5 £7 on the door which includes hot punch and nibbles. A mixture of a “main” longer story and tales from the floor. Main storytellers are invited. Message in advance for a floor spot.
Venture to the villagey outer reaches of Zone 6. Surrey Storytellers meet once a month with the cream of the UK’s storytelling scene. St John’s Church hall, 411 Malvern Road. Worcester Park KT7 7NY £10/7 (Worcester Railway Station) A mixture of a “main” longer story and tales from the floor. Main storytellers are invited. Message in advance for a floor spot.

Excellent roaming storytelling, spoken word and poetry night from The Storytime collective, headed up by Adam RW. A mix of featured performers and paid open slots. Weekly!! regular venue Enid Street Tavern SE1 but pops up elsewhere. Tickets on Eventbrite around £6-12 A mixture of invited tellers and names from a hat. Just turn up and put your name in a hat if you wish to tell a 5-10 minute tale.

“Rough Magic” regular outdoor storytelling celebrating the pagan wheel of the year with Bernadette Russell.
Regular one off full length storytelling shows at All Good Bookshop in Turnpike Lane.
“Story Pick and Mix” -a new night at Theatre Deli, East London, featuring full length performances from invited tellers.
South London Storytelling Club. Tooting Bec. A mixture of longer performances from invited tellers and stories from the floor.
